Milonga Pictoral Journey

The milonga is the tango social dance. Tango Society milongas are held about 15 times per year, usually at the Phillips Recreation Center of the Urbana Park District (505 W Stoughton, Urbana IL), at an interval of 3-4 weeks when the University of Illinois is in session.

During the summer we also have some outdoor milongas in Meadowbrook Park.

We model our milongas at the Phillips Center in Urbana - our Milonga del Corazon - after the milongas held in the neighborhood clubs ('clubes del barrio') in Buenos Aires, Argentina - the birthplace of tango and tango capital of the world.
We have a friendly social club environment where people know each other and newcomers are warmly welcomed.

Milonga hosts Ron & Susana will greet you at the door and,
if you are a newcomer, they will introduce you to other people at the milonga.

We take time out to recognize people's birthdays, anniversaries, and other special events.

Sometimes we share food, like at our Thanksgiving milonga or our Winter Holiday milonga.

But we still spend most of the time dancing tango, milonga and vals (the three rhythms in the tango family).

DJ Ron plays the best classic tango music for dancing,
the same as you would hear in the milongas of Buenos Aires.

Sometimes we take a break from tango and dance
a little salsa and swing before we get back to tango.

Recently we've initiated a new milonga - Milonga Sentimental - at McKinley Foundation on the University of Illinois campus.
With the tables surrounding the dance floor, it resembles the milongas in downtown Buenos Aires.

We hope you can join us soon at one of our milongas. If you have a partner, tango is something special to share.

If you don't have a partner, you will meet some very nice people to share tango with in our warm tango community.
